Italy has now joined the club of countries eager to welcome qualified professionals in remote occupations.
The Nomad Visa will allow foreign nationals to live and work in Italy for up to 12 months. The Italian government has been preparing for this for two years, having announced the program back in 2022.
A distinctive feature of the visa is not only its long duration but also the possibility of its subsequent renewal.
However, there are restrictions regarding the visa holder’s employment in Italy: according to the conditions, a person with the status of a digital nomad will not have the legal right to work locally.
To obtain the visa, a foreign citizen must have an annual income of approximately 25,500 euros or about 27,000 US dollars. Additionally, proof of insurance for the entire duration of the stay, confirmation of a place of residence, and at least six months of experience as a digital nomad or remote worker are required.
Applications are submitted at the Italian consulate in the foreign national’s country of residence.
