What is a digital nomad visa?

A digital nomad visa (also known as a freelance visa, nomad visa or self-employed visa) is a foreign residence permit that allows freelance professionals to live in another country under favorable tax conditions but with certain employment restrictions within the host country. Usually, freelance visas are issued for a period from several months to three years (depending on the country). Close family members can also acquire legal status in the country, where such programs operate, together with the applicant.

As of 2024, more than 20 countries offer special conditions for remote workers. The most popular destinations include Spain, Greece, Thailand, the UAE and Cyprus. Each year, the list of countries expands. More and more people prefer to be more mobile, combine work and travel, get bright impressions and discover new countries.

Differences between freelance visas of various countries

We work with people who value their time and want a complete solution rather than dealing with the tedious gathering of information, understanding all the nuances of visa programs, and preparing a full set of documents themselves. Considering the large number of different cases, we are ready to share our experience with you!

Our clients usually make their choice based on just 6 criteria:

  1. Climate and local specifics (for example, the possibility of communicating in English in the host country)
  2. Income tax rate (sometimes, the desired country offers more favorable conditions for specialists of a specific profile, i.e., it might be possible to obtain a different type of visa without restrictions)
  3. The cost of rent and its comfort
  4. Level of healthcare services and insurance costs
  5. Visa application cost and duration
  6. Future childs status if born in that country

We discuss nearly all these nuances on our website. If you have any questions, write to us or leave a request, and we will definitely respond!

Who can get a digital nomad visa?

If you have a profession that allows you to earn remotely - congratulations, you are already on your way to your nomad visa.

The second step is to gather the necessary documents (you can find a list on the specific country’s page on our website). In addition to the usual certificates and photographs for the visa, you often need to provide proof of regular income and sufficient funds for living (the amounts vary by country).

A freelance visa is issued only to foreigners who are not residing or employed in the territory of the country (for European countries, this applies to the entire EU zone).

As for moving your close family members, the visa you receive will form the basis for their move. But it will require proof that you are financially able to provide for their accommodation.

1.
What opportunities does the nomad visa offer?

Any Nomad Visa provides all the benefits of a full-fledged residence permit. This means you get the right to cross the border, long-term residence, rent housing, access to education and medicine for yourself and your family. The only restriction for some programs is that the nomad (but not his family) must be officially employed by a company in the country.

2.
Is there a restriction on the profession or education of a nomad?

Yes, some programs are really intended only for representatives of the IT sphere. Others require proof of specialized education. But in most countries there are similar programs without strict requirements. For example, talent visas, freelance visas, and rentier visas. The main condition is that you must have a stable source of income or work remotely.

3.
How long is the Nomad Visa issued for?

It all depends on the country and the type of nomad visa you are obtaining. The visa validity period varies from 6 months to 2 or even 3 years with the possibility of further extension in a simplified procedure.

4.
What should I do if my income is below the required minimum?

We will help you find similar programs that do not exclude employment in the country or do not require proof of official income. Or we can document income from other sources.

5.
How to choose the best country for Nomad Visa?

You should focus on the factors that are important to you. Most often, our clients choose a country based on climate, taxes, cost of living, wealth and even mobile internet speed. Our experts will help you to compare all countries by these and other indicators.
