The end of spring brings wonderful news: a new visa for Thailand’s digital nomads, the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), was announced recently. Additional details are expected soon.
Main features known so far:
- The visa is valid for 5 years with a stay limit of up to 180 days per year. A one-time extension for an additional 180 days is possible, allowing a stay in the country for up to one and a half consecutive years. Potential complexity may arise from tax residency.
- Candidate requirements are simple: you need to have 500,000 baht in your account (approximately $13,000). You can bring your family – spouse, children under 20 years old. The amount remains unchanged.
- The visa costs 10,000 baht ($270), and the extension costs the same. It is likely that this cost applies to the whole family (not entirely certain).
- A brief description can be found on the official Thai government website. More detailed information is expected in early June.
This is not only an opportunity for those who wish to temporarily reside in Thailand but also a chance for those who are, for example, in Tbilisi. Without a local residence permit, they are de jure considered residents of the Russian Federation. Now it is much easier to obtain a residence permit in Thailand.
The year 2024 is rich in new programs for digital nomads! Earlier this year, programs were introduced in Italy, South Korea, Turkey, and Japan. The trend is clear! Stay tuned for updates and the latest information.
